Sustainable Supply Chain Development
Fair Trade: Fair e-Shop
Fair Trade is an alternative trade strategy based on the triple bottom line: people, planet, profit. Is a win-win relationship for all stakeholders: the producer wins when receiving a fair price for his/her production and work; the consumer wins when the product or service paid does not damage his/her health; the planet wins since the product does not damage water sources nor forests; the community wins since this practice generates employment; finally, the country wins through taxes, we all win.
10 reasons why it is fair:
- Allows producers a direct access to markets in more equal conditions
- Creates a relationship between the consumer and the producer based on solidarity and mutual social, economic, and environmental responsibility.
- The lowest price is not the priority in this relationship of respect.
- Promotes local production and combats extortion against workers in other latitiudes.
- Avoids profit made by intermediaries based on small producers´ vulnerability
- By knowing the producer, it avoids child exploitation
- Respects the environment, utilizes less pesticides and decreases the risk of intoxication for producers and consumers.
- Small producers earn profits from their work and not intermediaries
- Encourages the consumer´s research and knowledge when buying
- It transports you to the reality of unknown people and places
e-Fair Shop
In April 1969, the first fair shop was opened in Breukelen, Holland. Only two years later, the Netherlands had 120 fair shops opened country-wide. The wave expanded rapidly to most European countries. Ecuador is one of Latin America´s leading countries in fair trade. Nearly, 400 organizations are part of this supply chain that moves over $30 million USD every year and involve over 100,000 producers. Our goal is to leverage the power of technology to strenghten this supply chain, create new ones, involve new partners, and expand it at a regional level through our fair e-shop.
