General Objective: Implement organic orchards to decrease the impact of malnourishment in vulnerable populations, generate additional income to participants, and implement actions to protect the environment.

Background:

Ecuador leads the index of global and chronicle malnourishment in the Andean region and it is amongst the 5 worst in Latin America. Today, close to 26% of Ecuador’s children under 5 years old suffer of malnourishment. Due to altitude, higher percentages are found in the highlands (31.9%). Quito is not the exception. The capital city is located on 10,000 feet and registers approximately 30%.

Triple Salto visualizes itself as a hinge that articulates local proposals with global needs in public-private ventures. All participants are partners that benefit in different ways from the initiatives we promote due to their different views and backgrounds. The more hands we hold, the longer and better results we guarantee for the future.

Project Specifics

• Support communities to learn new skills to improve their quality of live.
• Become part of a sustainable supply chain.
• Exchange know how from people around the world.
• Create linkages based on cultural understanding.

Possible Activities

• Build a forty square meter (40m2) organic greenhouse
• Supply the new greenhouse with a set of tools for the School team
• Supply the orchard with seeds
• Supply the greenhouse with 120 organic tomato seedlings.
• Plant 100 fruit trees and reforest the area
• Paint an educational mural
• Build 1 wormery to produce humus
• Install a drop-by-drop irrigation system for greenhouse and/or orchard
• Visit family and communitarian orchards in and outside of the city
• Build a guinea pig house
